Personality:
Tobirama is near the complete opposite of his brother Hashirama and, upon first glace, his presence can be intimidating to the point even his own brother has admitted to be intimidated by him (and that says a lot if you know his brother). He is stern, cool-headed, logical, pragmatic, dutiful, and blunt. He doesn't sugarcoat things or sweeten his words. A calm person with an intense presence even while being quiet. As also a private person, many may first perceive him as mysterious and difficult to get close to or know. Although this is not necessarily always the case. While it may sound impossible to rile him, much like the water he is so intune with, if you know the right buttons you might be surprised to find that Tobirama has quite the temper.

A brilliant man whose genius in canon is nearly unparalleled. Tobirama is credited for many things: the documentation of their history, the creation of thousands of jutsus (some less than orthodox), and the systems and infrastructure of Konoha. He created the schooling system, ranking system, police force, ANBU and more. While war and battle certainly lived in his bones, Tobirama preferred first and foremost to achieve peace through diplomatic discussions. However, having lived and breathed war since he could walk Tobirama was renown for not just his power but his mind. A keen strategist, observant and alert at all times.

Tobirama fiercely believes that the youth are the future and it is the duty of Hokage and elders to teach, guide, and build the youth to a better place so that they can continue progressing well beyond what the current hokage and elders were capable of. He is not a jealous person. He does not covet power or -- like the elders he unfortunately taught -- hide away and go to extreme measures to obtain wealth and longevity. Rather, Tobirama is always impressed and pleased beyond words when someone improves on a system or jutsu he created (keyword: improves). He's encouraging and excellent at teamwork.

The Senju gained enormous amounts of respect not just because of what he could do and what he did do for the village but that he was loyal and lead at the side of his people not from a place above. Very rarely would he wear his Hokage garb, in fact. He believed in knowing first hand what was needed of him by being there and speaking to the people whose lives would be affected by his choices. Never to throw orders around that he himself wouldn't be willing to do and more than willing to sacrifice himself. In fact, he did. Twice. This is the type of person Tobirama was and is.


CRAU developments: I don't know where I put what his AU is, so I'll put it there. He is technically a Canon Character up until the Blank Period. During the war, Tobirama was reanimated. However, after everything settled, and after he died again, he just... wakes up one day. In the middle of where that battle had come to its end. No reason, no rhyme. Heart beating. Body fully under his control. Confused, he returns to Konoha proper and after much discussion with important parties, gets to work. Helps rebuild. Eventually, as Konoha heals, he returns to his old post. An advisor, and leader of ANBU. Reworking the way ANBU function with the aid of various trusted people, Naruto and Sasuke among them.

Key themes:
- Innovation: You could probably distill down every law, system, and jutsu that exists to something Tobirama created. He didn't tread down the path of comfortable and new. Always creating, building, growing.

- Secretive: Tobirama was every bit of important, if not more important, to the creation of Konoha than his brother but he never wished for the spotlight. Even Hashirama believed Tobirama would have been better suited as the first Hokage and village leader. He only became Second Hokage because Hashirama died. There's many reasons for this but the main one is Tobirama preferred the shadows, dedicated his time and his entire life to supporting the growth of his village and teaching others to pass on their legacy not bask in the legacy he had obtained. He IS a leader, and leads well, but from the shadows.

- Sacrifice: Tobirama was an extremely dedicated person who didn't believe in hanging on to life if someone else was ready and able to take up his reigns and HE had the experience and ability to lower the casualties by targeting himself. He's died twice in this fashion but he also sacrifices a lot more. His dedication is so strong that he does what is necessary, whether its looked good upon or not. He'll sacrifice his name, his image, his ability to have close loved ones, everything. Everything in order to protect that which must be protected. To do what must be done.

Main Motivation: Peace. It might be weird, but Tobirama wants to be a fish out of water. He wants to stand in the village he and his brother created and think "there is no place for me here". His knowledge in war no longer needed. His attitude outdated. Because that means that everything they worked for paid off. They won. There is peace. People are safe and growing.

Skills: Outside of intelligence and intellect, Tobirama is most well known for a few things: his enormous water-based skills & his sensing abilities. Non-power based, Tobirama is very skilled with kunai and swords. His hand-to-hand needs a little work but get in a sword fight with him and you'll be sorry.

It was indeed a mystery, and by some strange coincidence, his reincarnation coincided with a desperate need. Filling this old role was not easy. He did not just wake one day and land this office the next. It took many discussions and many deliberations. Finding his footing in Konoha’s current framework was even more difficult than building it had been. It was easy to create a system but difficult to rearrange that system when it had become so deeply rooted in so many people. Hearing how Konoha had operated, how his frameworks were corrupted… it certainly didn’t appease him. Tobirama wasn’t one to believe in fate but there was something to be said about the timing of everything.

Konoha wanted to change.

Meeting after meeting, month after month, he finally found himself right back to square one. Tobirama was a leader, but he was not Hokage material and he never again would step into that role and hopefully would never need to. Here was where he could make a difference. Here was where he belonged. ANBU. Many had been honorably discharged upon his leadership. Although more concerning were those who begged to stay; those who knew nothing but this life; those who couldn’t fathom a world outside of this. In many ways, he could understand it. He could understand the plea a lot more than he would be willing to admit.

When people thought about the fallout of a war they thought about infrastructure. Buildings could be rebuilt. Roads repaved. Homes remade and trees replanted. No one thinks about the mind. No one thinks about how difficult it is to bring someone back from what had been endured. To bring a man back from war? It was sometimes impossible, and he knew that intimately. So. How could he manage the impossible? How could he heal these wounds?

Word had spread of medical facilities. Ones that cared for wounds deeper than the flesh. Of course, Tobirama spoke to Tsunade first of his concerns and she gladly gave him a name. Haruno Sakura.

The Senju stood as was his wont when she arrived and he permitted her entrance. A hand unfolded for her to sit at the chair by his desk but any further movement was halted when she began speaking. She was bold. Direct and clear with her request. Something of a smile tugged at the corner of his lips and he sat back down.


"Tsunade was never one to bow." A pause. "She was a powerful woman even as a child. It’s clear she mentored you." Gambling and drinking aside, but no one was perfect. "Please, pull up your chair and join me."

Countless books and scrolls were piled neat and orderly on and around his desk. Files he would likely reference, papers that were in the process of being refined, and refined, and once more. He was nothing if not meticulous and if she was as passionate as Tsunade said, as she came across now, then he would be glad to see her as equal. To treat her as equal.

"It is why I asked you here," he confirmed after a moment. "Allow me to give you permission to stop holding your tongue."
